Our old downtown store at Jefferson Boulevard and Fairfield Avenue. circa 1970
Although McMahon Tire & Car Care has been part of the Fort Wayne community for more than 40 years, the idea for the business was born in Evansville, where Patrick McMahon Jr. was managing a Firestone store in the late 1960s.
That’s when Patrick was approached by Paul Zurcher, founder of Best-One Tire & Service, now one of the country’s largest groups of independent tire dealers. Paul liked the way Patrick handled the Firestone store in Evansville and suggested that he and Patrick become partners and open a store in Fort Wayne. This was the beginning of the Best-One Tire Group.
The first store opened on Jefferson Boulevard and Fairfield Avenue, where Starbucks now stands. The business later made the short move to what is now Parkview Field, home of the TinCaps.
In 1981, McMahon Tire & Car Care opened at its current location in Glenbrook Mall, 4201 Coldwater Road. Our state-of-the-art fleet services center opened its current location on Coliseum Boulevard in 1999.
Although Patrick McMahon Jr. has stepped back from the day-to-day operations, the company remains a family affair. His son, Patrick III, grew up in the business and has been vice president of McMahon Tire & Car Care for two decades. Patrick III’s wife, Kim, serves as president of the company.
When Patrick McMahon Jr. founded McMahon Tire & Car Care more than four decades ago, he began building a tradition that continues today— creating great value by offering the best products and services at fair prices and striving for excellence in all aspects of the business. McMahon customers trust that tradition.
